37 × 5 → 36 ÷ 2 = 18 → add 5 → 185 ✓
Once this clicks, multiplying by 5 becomes faster than typing it into a calculator.
Trick 2
Multiply by 11 in Seconds
For any two-digit number: add the two digits together and place the result in the middle.
53 × 11 → 5 + 3 = 8 → 583 ✓ 72 × 11 → 7 + 2 = 9 → 792 ✓
If the middle sum is 10 or more, carry the 1 into the left digit.
For example: 85 × 11 → 8 + 5 = 13 → 935 ✓
Trick 3
Square Any Number Ending in 5
Take the first digit(s), multiply by the next highest number, then stick 25 on the end. That's it.
35² → 3 × 4 = 12 → add 25 → 1,225 ✓ 85² → 8 × 9 = 72 → add 25 → 7,225 ✓
This works for any number ending in 5 — 15, 25, 35, 95, 105 — every single one.
Trick 4
The Calendar Trick
Pick any 2×2 block of dates on a calendar. Add all four numbers. Now multiply the top-left number by 4 and add 16. You get the same answer. Every time. Without exception.
12 13 19 20 → 12 + 13 + 19 + 20 = 64 → (12 × 4) + 16 = 64 ✓

Trick 5
Find 15% Instantly
Don't try to calculate 15% directly. Break it into two steps: find 10%, then find 5% (half of 10%), then add them.
15% of 200 → 10% = 20 → 5% = 10 → 20 + 10 = 30 ✓

The Number Reversal Magic Trick

The steps:
- Pick any 3-digit number (digits must not all be the same)
- Reverse the digits
- Subtract the smaller from the larger
- Reverse that result
- Add the two together
532 → reverse: 235 → 532 − 235 = 297 → reverse: 792 → 297 + 792 = 1,089 ✓

Find 25% Instantly
25% is just one quarter. So divide by 4.
That's the entire trick.
25% of 480 → 480 ÷ 4 = 120 ✓
Need 75%? That's three quarters so find 25% and multiply by 3. Need 50%? Divide by 2. Percentages are fractions in disguise, and fractions are almost always easier to work with.
Trick 10
The "Think Like 100" Trick
When two numbers are both close to 100, this shortcut gives you the answer in two steps instead of a full multiplication.
The method: find how far each number is from 100. Subtract one gap from the other number. Multiply the two gaps together. Combine.
97 × 96 → 97 is 3 from 100, 96 is 4 from 100 → 97 − 4 = 93 (or 96 − 3 = 93) → 3 × 4 = 12 → Answer: 9,312 ✓
